The trial of a Ramsgate man accused of swinging a cat around by its tail has collapsed - after a court decided there wasn't enough evidence.

Riain Richards, 20, of Clements Road had denied causing unnecessary suffering to an animal.

CCTV pictures showed the cat, called Mogwli, being swung around outside the Camden Arms pub on October 29 last year (pictured left).

Mowgli's owner Michelle Buchanan from Ramsgate said after the case: "I can't believe that it actually got dismissed considering we had cctv footage - I'm stunned, shocked and disgusted to be honest."

"I definitely don't trust CCTV now and it makes me angry and upset for other people with CCTV cameras because it could happen to them.

"Before the incident he (Mowgli) was quite an outgoing friendly cat whereas now, eight months on, he's still very withdrawn, doesn't go out - I actually call him a 'big scaredy' cat now."
