It's not what you'd expect to catch in your fishing nets but Dover coastguard spent over an hour trying to cut free a 53ft catamaran.

Two men in their 70s were rescued after a lifeboat was launched at 3.45am following reports the vessel had got caught up five miles off the coast of Dungeness.

There were fears the catamaran could sink if it wasn't cut free.

The crew was forced to attach a knife to a long pole in a bid to try to cut the nets underwater.

After it was freed, the vessel was then escorted back to Dover.

In another incident, three people were rescued off the coast of Sandwich last night after their speedboat broke down.

It's thought the engine flooded and those on board spent hours at sea before getting in touch with the coastguard with their mobile phone at 7pm.

They were brought back to Ramsgate and treated by an ambulance crew as they were so cold.
