Jeremy Corbyn tables motion of no-confidence in Prime Minister Theresa May

Jeremy Corbyn is submitting a motion of no-confidence in the Prime Minister after her decision to delay a meaningful vote on her Brexit deal.

The Labour leader told the House of Commons he was bringing forward the action immediately after Theresa May said she planned to allow MPs to vote on her withdrawal agreement in January.

He said it was "unacceptable" to wait almost a month before the vote.

He added it was the "only way I can think of" to get the vote to take place this week.

Earlier, Theresa May told MPs the debate on her withdrawal deal will resume the week beginning January 7 - with a vote the following week.

The Prime Minister has also dismissed calls for a second EU referendum.

She said it would do "irreparable damage" to the integrity of British politics.
