A toddler died after suffering more than 40 injuries at his home, a court heard today.

Little Bobby Louch was killed either by his Crayford mum or her boyfriend, jurors heard.

Richard Whittam, QC, prosecuting, told the Old Bailey: "At the time of his death, Bobby Louch was covered in bruises.

"He was recovering from a broken leg occasioned approximately 20 days earlier."

The 21-month-old had a burn on his right hand and the two worst injuries were caused by a blow to his abdomen and a head injury, the court heard.

"The sum total of injuries to his head was such that he is unlikely to have been remotely normal thereafter," said Mr Whittam.

"The injury to his abdomen was the result of a significant direct trauma, perhaps a punch or a kick."

Collette Harris, 30, of Chapel Close, and James Phillips, 25, of Dale View, Erith, deny murdering Bobby on December 29, 2008.

They also denied an alternative charge of causing or allowing his death.

Bobby was taken to hospital from Halcot Avenue, Bexleyheath, where he was living with his mum and Phillips.

But he died from multiple injuries.
