Train services were disrupted this evening after a car hit a bridge in Whitstable.

Southeastern services were affected between Ramsgate and Faversham, with passengers forced to wait until an inspection was carried out on the bridge.

An engineer has now confirmed the bridge was not seriously damaged and is safe for trains to pass beneath.

The 5.22pm service from Ramsgate to Faversham was cancelled in the chaos.
