It was a real-life tale lifted from the pages of Shakespeare: the children of two warring families desperate to get married.

But while Romeo and Juliet died, this story ended in joy - thanks to a singing coach from Rochester.

Anthony Wade, also known as Dr Voice, intervened in a bitter feud between the Camp and the Guile families.

Guile son Adam had fallen in love with Camp daughter Sam, but the families had not spoken for years and both opposed the wedding.

So the 58-year-old voice coach of 35 years, who has performed at the Royal Albert Hall, Sydney Opera House and Hollywood Bowl, set out to resolve their differences through song.

Mr Wade, of The Tideway, told the Messenger he fought through tears, scuffles and suicide threats to bring the families together - and was even invited to the wedding.

He said: "My technique mixes singing and psychotherapy," he said. "I've trained company directors and dancer Derek Hough, who was seeing Cheryl Cole earlier this year.

"I never thought I'd be able to pull it off. I started by having them sing Shine by Take That, because of the positive message in the lyrics. The fall-outs carried on right up until the last day."

Television crews filmed the three-week experience for new show Sing Your Heart Out, set to air on Sky One at 5pm on Friday.

Dr Voice said helping the two families, from Oswestry, Shropshire, had left him "totally drained".

He said: "The cameras didn't show half of it. I would crawl back to my hotel room every night. I couldn't wait to get home. They ducked out on the big day and there were 400 people waiting for them.

"I was furious. I told them this was their one chance to inspire millions of viewers across the country.

"After that, they got up and sang their hearts out. The transformation was incredible."

Sing Your Heart Out is set to be a one-off, but the voice coach is hopeful for a full series if it is successful.
