A driver who caused the death of a teenage student by deliberately braking heavily in front of her father’s car has been jailed for two-and-a-half years.

Mateusz Makiewicz’s aggressive driving caused a “colossal collision ” as Steven George was forced to swerve into the path of another car.

Front seat passenger April George (pictured right), of Crouch Hill Court, Lower Halstow, suffered serious injuries and died soon afterwards.

Makiewicz, of Canterbury Road, Sittingbourne, admitted causing death by careless driving and his not guilty plea to causing death by dangerous driving was accepted.

The 29-year-old Polish stonemason admitted his guilt shortly before he was due to stand trial.

The tragedy happened on the A2 at Moor Street, Rainham, on December 7 last year.

Another motorist had told how Makiewicz was “driving like an idiot” before the crash.

Passing sentence, Judge Jeremy Carey said: “This is plainly a case at the top end of seriousness. The effect of this collision has been disastrous for the George family.”

April, 19, was studying criminal justice at Kent University’s Chatham Maritime campus.

Makiewicz was banned from driving for five years.
