Elderly couple from Chatham killed in crash in Lincolnshire

Police have named a couple who died in a collision on the A1 in Lincolnshire.

Norman Searles, 79, and wife June Searles, 77, from Chatham, died at the scene of the crash in South Witham on Sunday.

Four other people were also injured in the smash.

The collision happened at about 4.30pm on the southbound carriageway between South Witham and Stretton and involved a black Vauxhall Vectra and a red Rover 400.

The Rover was travelling southbound towards Stamford. The Vectra was travelling north on the northbound carriageway before the crash.

Norman was driving the Rover and June was a passenger in it.

Another female passenger in the Rover was taken to Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham, where her condition has been described as stable.

A male passenger in the Rover was taken to University Hospital of Coventry and Warwickshire, where he remains in a stable condition.

The female driver of the Vectra was taken to the Queen’s Medical Centre with minor injuries and has since been discharged.

The male passenger in the Vectra was taken to Peterborough District Hospital and was discharged after treatment.

The road remained closed until 11.30pm.

Police are investigating and appealing for witnesses to come forward.
