A 73-year-old woman died when the car she was driving was involved in a crash with a van in Charing.

The accident happened at around 10.30am Wednesday in Canterbury Road in the village, between the top of Charing Hill and Challock gliding club.

The road had to be closed by police for four hours while the Serious Crash Investigation Unit (SCIU) officers attended the scene.

The victim was driving a Citroen Xsara. The driver of the Ford Escort van also involved was treated for minor injuries at the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford.
