Eyes Wide Open

WITH any luck Kent’s Ki Fitzgerald could be the first to play the new Wembley Stadium if his band Eyes Wide Open wins a support slot with Bon Jovi.

The Stateside rockers are due to play the inaugural gig at the nation’s footballing home, which could offer a great launch-pad for the budding young act.

But having known the disappointment of events not working out for him as a founder member of teen-pop favourites Busted, Ki is keeping a pretty level head on his young shoulders.

"Playing Wembley would be awesome. We want to be a stadium band like The Chilli Peppers or Guns and Roses, that’s the dream, but whether it works out or not is in the lap of the gods," he explained.

The 22 year-old, who grew up in Herne Bay and Canterbury, is having a gas recording his new band’s debut album at the famed Olympic Studios in London. This auspicious venue has played host to some of the biggest names in rock, the latest to grace its doors being Eric Clapton.

"I know Eric is lurking round here somewhere - we will have to get him to play on the record," quipped Ki of the star in their midst, of whom the group are big fans.

They have been set up in a swanky London Docklands pad and are now furiously rehearsing for a tour which includes a gig at Chatham’s Tap ’n’ Tin.

"The Chatham gig will be really good and lots of friends are coming down for it, that’s what’s it’s all about, playing live."

* Eyes Wide Open play Chatham Tap ’n’ Tin on Friday, November 11. For more details call 01634 847926.
