A cyber bully has been subjecting people living in Kent to abuse on a social networking site.

Dozens of people were victims of the bullying, which saw wild and slanderous claims about residents, most with expletives, posted on a Facebook profile wall – making it public.

It is understood the majority of the victims were from Snodland and Larkfield.

The abuse included threatening one man with physical violence, claiming a number of local women were promiscuous or had extramarital affairs, calling people offensive names and saying they were not liked.

Facebook has now removed the profile after a string of complaints.

The abuse was posted on the wall of a ‘Steve Davids’, but it is not known whether he is a real person or a pseudonym – he failed to respond to messages.

Chief Insp Jon Kirby said: "Kent Police takes these types of crime very seriously. If an incident is reported to us we will investigate it thoroughly and we are currently looking into the offences that were recently reported to us against victims in the Larkfield area.

"We have been speaking with the victims to find the most appropriate action for this particular case and establish if any offences have occurred."

A Facebook spokesman said: "We’ve investigated the profile and the account has been removed for breaking our community standards.

"It’s against Facebook’s rules to intimidate or harass others, and we provide everyone with the tools to report such content via specific links across every page of our site.

"When abuse is reported to us, we react swiftly, and we will disable accounts that are found to be in breach of our terms.

"We strongly encourage people using Facebook to use our tools whenever needed and to report objectionable content so we can investigate reports and take action."
