Family escapes house fire in Ashford

A young family fled a house after it caught fire last night.

The man, woman and baby escaped the blaze that broke out in the ground floor of a house in Jemmett Road, Ashford, at about 11.35pm.

Ashford Fire Station watch manager Jim Smart said: "It was a fully developed fire but they got out unharmed."

Three fire engines, from Ashford and Wye, were called to the firefighters used breathing apparatus to tackle the flames.

Crews were at the scene for two hours and say the ground floor was severely damaged. The cause of the fire is now under investigation.
