A blaze caused by a candle left a Dartford family homeless.
Fire ripped through the dining room of a house in Attlee Drive after a candle fell over and set light to an upholstered chair.
It is believed the owner was with her baby upstairs during the power blackout. A neighbour spotted the fire from their back garden and alerted the family of six.
Two crews from Dartford Fire Station were called to the scene at about 10.10pm on Tuesday.
The blaze was confined to the dining room but the rest of the terraced property has been damaged by smoke.
White watch crew manager Craig Lloyd-Cowtan said: “We expected to be called out during the blackout as unfortunately it does easily happen. "Tealights are safer to use because they are less likely to fall over. The most important thing is to put candles in non-flammable holders. I would also urge everyone to make sure they have smoke alarms fitted. This property did have one but the battery was disconnected.”
The two adults and their four children were said to be shaken by the incident.
