Coronavirus: Confusion after Department of Health tweet suggests second Kent case

A tweet from the Department of Health suggesting there is a second case of coronavirus in Kent has turned out to be a mistake.

The tweet, published earlier this afternoon, said there were 12 further cases of COVID-19 as of 9am this morning, taking the total UK number up to 51.

It went on to say the patients were from Kent, London, Hampshire, Northamptonshire, Bury, Wirral, Greater Manchester and Humberside.

However, KentOnline has since been contacted by Public Health England, who says this is an error and there is still just one case of coronavirus in the county.

The tweet from the Department of Health has not yet been removed as of 6.30pm.

It comes as NHS England this evening declared coronavirus a level 4 incident - the highest level of emergency.

Meanwhile, coronavirus isolation pods have been spotted at two Kent hospitals.
