Flood warning for Thanet, Deal, Whitstable, Herne Bay and Sheerness

Homes on the coast could be flooded as gale-force winds and high tides are predicted next week.

The Environment Agency is warning there will be a high risk of coastal flooding between March 20 and 25.

Areas with the highest risk of flooding are Ramsgate, Margate, Deal, Whitstable, Herne Bay and Sheerness.

There is also some risk in Dover, Folkestone and Hythe but it is considered less likely.

These areas may also be affected from April 18 to 23 and May 17 to 21.

The Kent flood risk management committee is due to discuss these predictions and the effects of climate change at County Hall this afternoon.

This comes after the county was battered by strong winds at the weekend.
