An amateur footballer who died after hitting his head during a game has been named.

Father-of-one David Robert Winslow, 26, was taking part in a five-a-side match, at the Black Lion Leisure Centre, Gillingham, on Tuesday night.

It is thought he collided with a wall and hit his head during what has been reported as a “very energetic match” at about 9.30pm.

He was given emergency first aid by bystanders until paramedics arrived a few minutes after a 999 call was made.

Medics tried to resuscitate him for more than an hour, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Medway Council, which runs the centre, has informed the Health and Safety Executive about the incident.

A spokesman said the council will play a full part in any investigation, and added: “We would like to send our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of the young man who died at the Black Lion Leisure Centre.

“Everyone at the centre is devastated by what happened.
“We can confirm that he fell and hit his head during the match.”
