Weather forecasters issue cold alert for Kent as temperatures set to plummet

Weather forecasters have issued a cold health alert as temperatures are expected to plummet this weekend.

Kent has seen several weather warnings recently for cold weather, snow and ice – with pictures capturing flakes falling across the county earlier this month.

And now the UK Health Security Agency has issued a cold alert, which comes into force at 6pm today and is set to remain in place until 9am on Tuesday.

The alerting system provides an early warning when adverse temperatures are likely to impact the health and wellbeing of the population.

Some places across the county are set to see temperatures drop to 0C this weekend, with the mercury not expected to climb above 6C.

The Met Office says there will be extensive low clouds and patchy mist this morning but it is set to remain dry.

There is a chance for a few limited brighter intervals to develop this afternoon but most places will stay cloudy with light winds.

Forecasters predict tonight will be cloudy but dry, turning chilly by the morning with a chance for isolated fog patches.

Saturday will be cold and widely cloudy.

The Met Office says it will be a cloudy and cold on Sunday and Monday with a risk of overnight frost and fog, while temperatures will recover on Tuesday.
