Girl suffers freak glass injury in Ramsgate

A girl suffered multipile cuts after yobs lobbed a glass vodka bottle off the top of a cliff.

Little Caydence Carrick, aged four, was left splattered with blood after being hit in Ramsgate yesterday.

The child had been walking back from the beach with her family along Victoria Promenade at around 1.50pm.

A glass bottle hurled from the cliff-top then smashed into her.

Describing the moment she realised what had happened, Caydence's mum Magdal said: "I heard a bang and she screamed.

"I looked down and saw the blood and just wrapped a beach towel around her arm.

"I dialled 999 but my 14-year-old son took over and told the emergency services where we were.

"A passer-by who was a nurse reassured me that the bleeding was not too bad but it was very upsetting."

Caydence was taken to the QEQM Hospital in Margate and had nine stitches in her arm and steri-strips applied to other cuts.

Police searched the area at the top of the cliffs but couldn't find the culprits.

Inspector Rory Welburn said: "This was a particular stupid thing to do.

"No thought was given to the consequences that probably will leave a little girl with a scar and obviously unhappy memories of the experience.

"We would appeal to anyone involved who has a conscience or anyone who saw the bottle thrown at about 1.50pm to contact police."

Anyone with information on this incident should contact DC Paul Francklin on 01843 222 105.
