Guns stolen from antiques dealer

AN ANTIQUES dealer is appealing for the return of nearly 50 guns, worth a total of £20,000, stolen from his safe.

Police fear the cherished collectors' items, which were stored inside a workshop in Knatts Valley, West Kingsdown, could be sold on or wielded in a robbery.

The owner, who wished not to be named, discovered the theft after returning from holiday and found an abandoned wheelbarrow, which could have been used to move the antique guns from the shed, near the road.

Investigating officer, Det Con Alan Coome, said: "Up to 47 antique firearms were stolen which would require specialist knowledge to be used as weapons. However, we would obviously like to recover them as soon as possible.

"If anyone is approached to buy any type of antique firearm or has any information on this theft we would urge them to contact us as soon as possible."

Anyone with information on the theft which took place between November 21 and 24, is asked to call DC Coome on 01322 283154 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
