A retired Gurkha whose body was found in an alleyway in Cheriton died from a stab wound to the neck, an inquest heard.

Sangdup Waiba Tamang, 70, who lived above Rocheforts newsagents in Cheriton High Street, was found in the alley off Marler Road on Friday, October 15.

Coroner's officer Peter Daltry said Mr Tamang was born in Nepal and was a retired army officer.

On the day he died he was seen near his home carrying a kitchen-type knife and later found in the alley, where paramedics declared him dead. His body was identified by one of his daughters.

A post mortem gave the causes of death as arterial transection and stab wound to the neck.

The inquest was adjourned to a later date.
