A Thanet head teacher has announced he will be retiring next April. Keith Rumblo has been head of St George’s School, Broadstairs, for 13 years.

When he announced his retirement plans at the school’s awards night he described his decision as "a momentous one". He thanked all those "including students past and present" for playing their part in making St George’s a close-knit learning community.

He said: "Although I will miss St George’s tremendously I will be making every effort to reduce my golf handicap in the years to come."

The school is being rebuilt under the Government's Building for the Future programme. Mr Rumblo has said it will make St George's a model for 21st century education.

It should be completed by September 2010.
