Travel disruption from heavy winds of Storm Bronagh batters Kent

Strong winds are causing problems for commuters and drivers this morning, with fallen trees on train lines and heavy delays on ferries.

The Met Office released a yellow weather warning for wind until 9am today, as Storm Bronagh works its way through Kent.

P&O Ferries and DFDS Seaways told passengers to expect delays of about an hour and a half between Dover and Calais due to the adverse weather conditions.

The DFDS service from Dover to Dunkirk also suffered from half hour delays, although this has returned to normal.

Delays on DFDS services to Calais are down to half an hour.

On the roads, a fallen tree blocked one lane on the M20 heading coastbound at junction 2 for the A20 near Brands Hatch. The lane has since reopened.

Woodgate Road in Addington was also blocked in both directions due to fallen power cables from Addington Lane to The Street.

Southeastern trains were being held up by a tree which fell on the line at Maidstone East.

It is understood a train hit the fallen tree, causing delays of about 20 minutes, which have since cleared.

Last night, fire crews were sent to a McDonald's after two metres of anti-pest spikes were shaken loose by the storm.

We can also expect a windy weekend as another yellow warning will follow for 24 hours from 9am on Sunday.
