Two Kent policemen will be honoured today at the prestigious Police Bravery Awards in London.

PCs Ben Farquett and Gareth Williams have been nominated for their bravery at a domestic incident in Tonbridge.

They both tackled a man who produced a seven-inch carving knife. PC Williams was cut on his hand and was almost dealt another blow until PC Farquett intercepted.

The pair's bravery will be marked at the Dorchester in London tonight.

The star-studded event will follow a reception at 10 Downing Street with the Prime Minister.

Ian Pointon, chairman of the Kent Police Federation said: "They reacted very decisively and for their own safety, that’s what happens quite often on a day-to-day basis in policing.

"Officers go to very routine incidents and in a split second that turns into what could be a life-threatening incident.

"This is a stark reminder of the dangers that officers face on a daily basis whilst policing in Kent."
