An enormous party will be held at Buckingham Palace this summer with some of the world's greatest stars and you could be there - for free.

Platinum Party at the Palace takes place on Saturday, June 4 and will be performed in front of The Queen as part of a weekend of events to mark her historic Jubilee.

It is set to bring together some of the world's biggest entertainers, together with a live orchestra alongside actors from film, television and stage who will all tell the story and celebrate some of the most significant cultural moments to have happened during Her Majesty's record 70-year reign.

Alongside a live television broadcast, a whopping 10,000 free tickets - or 5,000 pairs - are being made available to the public who can now apply via a ticket ballot to be in with a chance of winning a night out at one of the biggest events of the year.

How to enter

The tickets are not being allocated on a first come first served basis, so you have the next month to find the time to get your online application form sent to concert organisers.

Each successful applicant in the ballot will be able to nominate a guest to bring with them - giving the 10,000 ticket total.

Anyone applying must be aged over 18 as of February 24 and nominated guests who they wish to bring must be 11 or over as of February 24 as well. Any guest under 16 (but 11 or over) being brought to the event must be accompanied by a ticket holder who is either their parent or legal guardian or is someone acting with the written consent of the child's parent, say those organising the ticket draw.

The ballot is open to people living in England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, the Channel Isles and the Isle of Man - and both applicants and their chosen guests must be residents to be able to come along.

Only one application per person is allowed and no duplicate entries will be accepted, and organisers insist checks will be made to ensure no single person is sending additional applications in the hope of increasing their chances of winning.

Applications, which are made online here, can be made until 11.59pm on March 23.

Once you have submitted your application you will receive a confirmation on your screen to say it has been received and an email also sent to the address you used confirming your application has been processed. This should arrive within 48 hours.

The draw

After the ballot's closing date tickets will be randomly allocated in a way, say organisers, that 'fairly reflects population spread'.

Ticket winners will be sent an email by late April telling them they were successful and asking them to 'accept' their tickets by following the instructions in the email that will take them through a Ticketmaster account process. All entrants are being reminded to continue checking spam and junk mail folders when waiting to hear about their application.

Anyone who hasn't won will not be notified, so you can assume that if you don't hear from Palace concert organisers by the end of April you sadly haven't won a pair of free tickets.

If successful applicants do not accept the tickets they have been offered within two weeks of receiving their ballot email - the tickets will be re-allocated through the ballot so it's advisable to keep checking those junk mail folders!

All tickets to this summer's Party at the Palace will be digital and those in possession of a pair will use a QR code on their mobile phone to get into the event.

Tickets will be named to ensure they cannot be used by anyone else other than the lucky ballot winner and their named guest - so anyone who is unable to go must return their tickets to Ticketmaster for cancellation and not pass them on to friends or family.

The ballot for free tickets to Platinum Party at the Palace is the second to offer tickets for a Jubilee event this June that has opened in the last few weeks.

People keen to see events in the capital over the Platinum Jubilee bank holiday weekend also have the opportunity to purchase seated tickets to The Queen's Birthday Parade - or Trooping the Colour - currently on offer via another ticket ballot.
