Here is how to shop online in Kent during coronavirus

The policies of online supermarkets have changed amid the coronavirus crisis to ensure everyone gets the supplies they need.

Many people in Kent are flocking to order their groceries online after the Prime Minister's address yesterday. Here is what you need to know.

Most big supermarkets have very similar online policies at the moment which restrict the number of items you can buy.

Asda have restricted all items to three per customer. Tesco and Sainsbury's are also doing this, as well as maintaining a two per customer limit on items such as toilet roll and hand sanitiser. Co-op are limiting people to 20 items per shop.

All stores are encouraging customers to say whether they are self isolating in their checkout delivery instructions. Self isolation is when someone avoids contact with people outside their household because they have had symptoms of the virus.

This precaution means orders can be left somewhere a member of the household can safely pick them up without coming into contact with the delivery driver, who could spread the virus to other households.

Before paying for an order, you must pick a time slot within the next few weeks for it to be delivered.

Supermarkets are encouraging people who remain at home to pick less popular delivery times. This is so people who need to go out for work can still have deliveries arrive when they are home.

They are also encouraging customers to use the 'click and collect' services where possible.

However, there are no slots available for the next few weeks in all the main stores. For now, it may be a case of keeping an eye out on supermarket websites and going out for essential supplies.

The Morrisons website went down earlier today due to a surge in people visiting it.

However, when they are back online, the supermarket is offering £35 boxes of essentials which can be delivered to your door.

The store is offering a meat option and a vegan option, which will include items such as toilet rolls, vegetables, canned goods and household essentials. Each box should be able to support two adults for a week.

Sainsbury's is prioritising delivery slots for over 70's, disabled and vulnerable customers. They are asking any registered members in these groups to contact them on 0800 3281700 if they have not heard anything from the store.

The Sainsbury's website is currently not accepting new registrations due to a huge influx of people signing up.

M&S have closed their Food to Order Service amid the current climate.
