Hunt for armed post office raider

POLICE are hunting a man who used a handgun to hold up Iwade post office, near Sittingbourne, today.

The incident happened in Ferry Road shortly before 10am. The raider demanded money but he made off empty-handed when the shop assistant pressed a panic alarm.

The man, who is described as 5ft 6ins, is aged between 20 and 25. He was wearing a cream coloured jumper. He left the shop and met another man outside the premises before they made off in what was believed to be a grey Vauxhall Astra.

The second man is described as in his 20s and was wearing tracksuit bottoms and a beige top.

Police arrived at the scene minutes after being alerted to the incident where they carried out an extensive, unsuccessful search of the area .

A crime scene investigation unit was also sent to the crime scene and patrols were placed at the Kingsferry Bridge and Stockbury roundabout.

The men are still at large, but CCTV footage is being studied by police. Anyone with information is asked to contact Det Sgt Peter Farrell at Sittingbourne police station on 01795 477055.
