The latest results from the courts around Kent

A serial washing detergent shoplifter and numerous drink drivers are among the latest to face justice in Kent's magistrates' courts.



Triple shoplifter behind bars

Homeless Sean Gaskin stole a lamb joint worth £24.70 from a service station in Bridge Road, Sheerness.

He also stole perfume worth £50 from a shop in High Street, Sheerness.

Gaskin then stole tanning mousse from another shop in High Street, Sheerness, and assaulted a police officer and another man at Medway Police Station.

He then failed to surrender to bail at Medway Magistrates’ Court without reasonable excuse.

Magistrates sentenced the 34-year-old to 180 days in prison. He must also pay a £115 victim surcharge.

Sittingbourne man handed unpaid work

Daniel Prowse, of Meads Avenue, used threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour towards a police officer in Sittingbourne, intending to cause harassment, alarm or distress.

He also caused £20 of damage to a police car and £100 of damage to a cell floor in Medway Police Station.

Magistrates ordered the 33-year-old to carry out 300 hours of unpaid work in the next year. He must also pay £220 compensation, £85 costs and an £85 victim surcharge.

Man more than double the drink limit banned

David Ford, of Charles Drive, Cuxton, drove a Nissan Navara in Roman Road, Bean, and gave a breath test of 82 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35 microgrammes.

Magistrates banned the 32-year-old from driving for a year and eight months. He must also pay a £400 fine, £85 costs and a £40 victim surcharge.

Ban for Gillingham drink driver

Carlos Fisher, of Grange Road, drove a Ford Fiesta in Skinner Street, Chatham, and gave a breath test of 85 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

Magistrates banned the 20-year-old from driving for a year and eight months. He must also pay a £160 fine, £85 costs and a £30 victim surcharge.

Ban and unpaid work for one drink driver

Ami Brown, of Upper Mill, East Malling, drove a Ford Fiesta in Rochester Road, Gravesend, and gave a blood test of 146 milligrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. The legal limit is 80 milligrammes.

Magistrates banned the 28-year-old from driving for a year and a half and ordered her to carry out 100 hours of unpaid work in the next year. She must also pay £85 costs and an £85 victim surcharge.

Driver more than triple the limit banned for three years

Jan Orzol, of Prince of Wales Close, Gravesend, drove a Mercedes Benz in Mungo Park Road, Gravesend, with no insurance and gave a breath test of 119 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

He also failed to stop the vehicle after an accident where damage was caused to land and after an accident where damage was caused to another vehicle.

Magistrates sentenced the 61-year-old to 16 weeks in prison, suspended for two years, and banned him from driving for three years. He must also pay 85 costs and a £115 victim surcharge.

Teen driver banned

Theo Benjamin, of Granville Road, Gillingham, drove a Renault Clio in Pretoria Road, Chatham, and gave a urine test of 212 milligrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of urine. The legal limit is 107 milligrammes.

Magistrates banned the 18-year-old from driving for a year and a half. He must also pay a £200 fine, £85 costs and a £20 victim surcharge.

Curfew for Gillingham teen

Jack Crickmore, of Beechings Way, assaulted a man in Livingstone Road, Gillingham.

Magistrates sentenced the 19-year-old to 60 days in prison, suspended for a year, and gave him a three month curfew to remain at home between 9pm and 5am daily until May 31.

He must also pay an £80 fine, £200 compensation, £85 costs and a £145 victim surcharge.

Chatham teen handed curfew

Sam Hyde, of Beechwood Avenue, Chatham, assaulted a man in Livingstone Road, Gillingham.

Magistrates sentenced the 19-year-old to 90 days in prison, suspended for 12 months, and gave him a three month curfew to remain at home between 8pm and 6am daily until May 31.

He must also pay £200 compensation, £250 costs and a £115 victim surcharge.

Police attacker in prison

Amanda Edwards, of McCudden Row, Gillingham, assaulted a police officer at an address in McCudden Row, Gillingham.

On a different day, she assaulted two police officers at the same address.

Magistrates sentenced the 32-year-old to 139 days in prison. She must also pay a £115 victim surcharge.

Seven time shoplifter jailed

Ruby Eastwood, of Summerson Close, Rochester, stole five fragrances worth £289.50 from a shop in Greenhithe.

On two different days she stole CCTV systems worth a total of £690 from a shop in Vauxhall Road, Canterbury.

She also stole two perfume gift sets worth £92 from a shop in High Street, Tonbridge, items worth £30 from a supermarket in High Street, Strood, a perfume gift set worth £70 from a shop in High Street, Tonbridge, and bread and salad worth £3.50 from a service station in City Way, Rochester.

She then failed to surrender to bail at Medway Magistrates’ Court without reasonable excuse.

Magistrates sentenced the 26-year-old to 16 weeks in prison. She must also pay £525 compensation, a £50 fine and a £115 victim surcharge.

Burglar handed unpaid work

Homeless Liam Kyle burgled an address in New Cross Street, Margate, and stole an iPhone worth an unknown amount.

Magistrates ordered the 23-year-old to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work in the next year. He must also pay £60 compensation, £85 costs and an £85 victim surcharge.

Prison for one Margate man

Luke Walker, of Northdown Road, Margate, used threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour towards a person in Northdown Park Road, Margate, causing them to fear violence.

On a different day, he assaulted a man at a takeaway in Cowley Rise, Margate, which was racially aggravated.

He then failed to surrender to bail at Thanet Magistrates’ Court without reasonable excuse.

Magistrates sentenced the 20-year-old to 18 weeks in prison. He must also pay a £115 victim surcharge.

Technology burglar behind bars

Ashley Little, of The Cuttings, Ramsgate, broke into a mobile classroom at a school in Chatham Street, Ramsgate, and stole a mobile phone, five iPads, two tablets and a pair of sunglasses worth a total of £3,000.

Magistrates sentenced the 23-year-old to 120 days in prison. He must also pay a £115 victim surcharge.

Teenage assaulter handed unpaid work

Bradlee Wilson, of Ayrshire Close, Ashford, assaulted two men at a nightclub in Station Road, Ashford.

Magistrates ordered the 18-year-old to carry out 160 hours of unpaid work in the next year. He must also pay £500 compensation, £85 costs and an £85 victim surcharge.

Suspended sentence and curfew for one Ashford man

Ryan Alford, of Knock Road, damaged two vehicles in Bybrook Road, Ashford. He also had a large kitchen knife in his possession.

Magistrates sentenced the 20-year-old to 30 days in prison, suspended for a year, and gave him a three month curfew to remain at home between 8pm and 5.30am daily until May 31.

He must also pay £400 compensation, £85 costs and a £115 victim surcharge.

More than a year off the road for one teen

Chad Humphries, of Crabble Hill, Dover, took a Peugeot 307 without the owner’s consent and drove it in Whitfield, Dover, without a licence and with no insurance.

He gave a breath test of 66 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

Magistrates banned the 18-year-old from driving for a year and eight months and ordered him to carry out 100 hours of unpaid work in the next year. He must also pay £85 costs and an £85 victim surcharge.

Walmer man banned for more than a year

Alain Bourgouin, of The Strand, drove a VW van in West Street, Deal, and gave a breath test of 68 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

Magistrates banned the 56-year-old from driving for a year and eight months. He must also pay a £250 fine, £85 costs and a £30 victim surcharge.

Attempted vodka thief sentenced

Kelly Challacombe, of St Andrew’s Close, Canterbury, attempted to steal vodka worth £39.99 and assaulted a man at a shop in St Dunstan’s Street, Canterbury.

She also caused damage worth £482.26 to doors and security chains at an address in St Andrew’s Close.

Magistrates sentenced the 35-year-old to 30 days in prison, suspended for a year. She must also pay £85 costs and a £115 victim surcharge.

More than three years off the road for Ramsgate man

Derek Cox, of St James Avenue, drove a Volvo S40 in St James Avenue, without a licence and gave a breath test of 77 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

Magistrates banned the 64-year-old from driving for three years and four months. He must also pay a £360 fine, £85 costs and a £36 victim surcharge.

Ban and unpaid work for one drink driver

Puran Limbu, of Pond Hill Road, Folkestone, drove a Vauxhall Vectra in Rheims Way, Canterbury, and gave a breath test of 96 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

Magistrates banned the 28-year-old from driving for two years and ordered him to carry out 75 hours of unpaid work in the next year. He must also pay £85 costs and an £85 victim surcharge.

Hospital attacker sentenced

Jasmine Ripley, of Ridley Close, Herne Bay, assaulted two women and two men at a hospital in Ramsgate Road, Margate.

Magistrates sentenced the 27-year-old to 120 days in prison, suspended for a year. She must also pay £300 compensation.

Four year ban for one drink driver

Alex Taghdissian, of Heathside Avenue, Maidstone, drove a Vauxhall Corsa in Stockett Lane, Maidstone, and gave a breath test of 112 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

Magistrates banned the 31-year-old from driving for four years and ordered him to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work in the next year.

He must also pay £775 costs and an £85 victim surcharge.

Double offender in prison

Ricki Conaghan, of Greatness Lane, Sevenoaks, drove an Audi A3 on the Swanley Interchange, Swanley, without a licence and with no insurance.

He also had a quantity of cannabis on him.

Magistrates sentenced the 27-year-old to two weeks in prison. He must also pay a £115 victim surcharge.

Ban and unpaid work for failing to provide specimen

Mudzingwa Tavatya, of Bayhall Road, Tunbridge Wells, failed to provide a specimen of breath for analysis in Tunbridge Wells.

Magistrates banned the 35-year-old from driving for two and a half years and ordered him to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work in the next year.

He must also pay £85 costs and an £85 victim surcharge.

Jumper shoplifter sentenced

Paul Wood, of York Road, Gravesend, stole five women’s jumpers worth £145 from a shop in London Road, Sevenoaks.

Magistrates sentenced the 46-year-old to 84 days in prison, suspended for a year. He must also pay £85 costs and a £115 victim surcharge.

Tonbridge man handed two year driving ban

Robert Harman, of Brickworks Close, drove a Ford Focus in St Stephen’s Street, Tonbridge, and gave a breath test of 96 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

Magistrates banned the 31-year-old from driving for two years and ordered him to carry out 80 hours of unpaid work in the next year. He must also pay £85 costs and an £85 victim surcharge.

Two year ban for drink driver

Justin West, of Dodd Road, Tonbridge, drove a Qingqi motorcycle in Severn Close, Tonbridge, and gave a breath test of 93 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

Magistrates banned the 26-year-old from driving for two years. He must also pay a £120 fine, £85 costs and a £30 victim surcharge.

Driving offender banned

Michael Blake, of Cornwall Close, Maidstone, drove a Vauxhall Corsa in Bishops Way, Maidstone, without a licence and with no insurance.

He also gave a breath test of 82 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

Magistrates banned the 33-year-old from driving for a year and eight months. He must also pay a £398 fine, £85 costs and a £30 victim surcharge.

Driving ban and curfew handed to Ashford man

Jimmy Collins, of Bethersden Road, drove a Ford Transit in Ashford Road, Lenham, and gave a breath test of 104 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

Magistrates banned the 34-year-old from driving for two years and four months and gave him a 16-week curfew to remain at home between 7pm and 7am daily until June 21.

He must also pay a £660 fine and an £85 victim surcharge.

Washing detergent shoplifter in prison

Joseph Bristow, of Edwards Close, Snodland, stole washing detergent products worth £58.60 from a supermarket in Tonbridge Road, Maidstone.

He also stole washing detergent products worth £20.90 from a supermarket in Loose Road, Maidstone.

On two different days he stole washing detergent products worth a total of £62.90 from a supermarket in Wrotham Road, Borough Green.

Magistrates sentenced the 39-year-old to 210 days in prison. He must also pay a £115 victim surcharge.

Drink driver banned

Tso Angwafo, of Belts Wood, Maidstone, drove a Honda Jazz in Well Road, Maidstone, without a licence and gave a breath test of 71 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

Magistrates banned the 28-year-old from driving for a year and a half. He must also pay a £496 fine, £85 costs and a £49 victim surcharge.
