Video: Charity
sweets cost charity thousands of pounds

Whoever stole a bumper haul of
sweets may be salivating over their loot but their actions have
deprived the Kent Air Ambulance charity of thousands of pounds in
cash.

Six months ago businessman Aaron
Sellens, 23, launched Buzzboxuk, a business which produces sweets
in special display boxes, with the majority of the profits going to
the Marden-based charity.

Pubs, bars and businesses across
Kent stock them.

Just over a month ago, Mr Sellens
began storing the sweets in a garage in Seagull Road, Strood, but
at some point between 11pm on Thursday, November 5 and 10am on
Friday, November 6, offenders broke into the garage and stole
around 400 kilos of sweets.

Mr Sellens, of Chalky Road,
Stockbury, said: “I’ve lost thousands of sweets and it was a
mixture of everything. It equates to around 4,000 bags-worth and
that would have been worth in the region £5,000 to the air
ambulance.

“Some of the sweets were already in
bags and I’m sure whoever did it would have seen the Kent Air
Ambulance display boxes and logos and would have known what they
were for.”

Mr Sellens began supporting the air
ambulance after a friend was involved in a motorbike accident a
year ago.

He added: “I am a keen motorcyclist
myself and I know what they did for my friend and one day I might
need their help too.”

Jill Playle, Kent Air Ambulance’s
director of communications said: “Buzzboxuk have been very generous
in supporting us.

“It is appalling that the work they
have put into raising money for the charity has been hampered in
this way.”
