Kent among worst for children's services

Kent has been given a poor rating for its children's services - one of only 12 places in the country.

And the gap is widening between the best and worst performing councils - there's also been a doubling in the number of authorities judged excellent.

Kent was ranked poorly together with councils including Essex, Salford, Doncaster and Worcestershire.

Patrick Leeson, director for education and care for Ofsted, said: "It's not just a question of resources and demand, it's a question of the management decisions that authorities make in terms of how they use their resources and how they prioritise their efforts at particular issues."
