Dina Asher-Smith from Orpington nominated for Sports Personality of the Year 2019

A Kent athlete has joined the list of contenders for Sports Personality of the Year 2019.

The 200m world champion from Orpington became the first British woman to win a major global sprint title in October.

The 23 year-old's victory earlier this year also saw the sprinter break the record for the fastest British woman, completing the race in 21.88 seconds, at the World Championships in Doha.

Cricketer Ben Stokes, footballer Raheem Sterling, rugby player Alun Wyn Jones, F1 driver Lewis Hamilton, and heptathlete Katarina Johnson-Thompson have also been nominated for the award.

The victor will be announced on December 15.
