Three soldiers from a Kent-based battalion are believed to have been seriously injured during a training exercise in the Falkland Islands.

The men, reportedly from The Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, 5th Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland, were shot during a live firing training session last Tuesday, October 27.

The battalion is based at Howe Barracks in Canterbury.

One of the casualties has been medically evacuated to the UK, while the other two are being treated at the King Edward Hospital in Stanley, after they were airlifted from Onion Range on a remote part of East Falkland.

The Ministry of Defence has not commented on the condition of the three men, but their families have been informed.

A statement said: "We can confirm that an incident occurred on October 27 where three members of service personnel, serving in the Falkland Islands, received injuries that required hospital treatment."

The Argylls are currently the only infantry regiment serving in the Falklands. Last year, they returned from a six-month tour of duty in Afghanistan.

Companies are regularly posted to the Falklands to carry out protection duties and training.
