Rob Key is playing down speculation linking him with an England recall as the clamour for change gathers pace following the crushing innings and 80-run defeat by Australia in less than three days at Headingley.

The 30-year-old Kent skipper is one of several options available to the selectors. Warwickshire's Jonathan Trott, left out at Leeds, and Surrey's in-form Mark Ramprakash are the others they may opt for if they decide to leave out either Ravi Bopara or Ian Bell, or both, for the Ashes decider which begins at The Brit Oval on Thursday week.

Key (pictured), who won the last of his 15 caps against South Africa in 2005 said: "It's nice to hear people mentioning my name, but the Test is still a few days away, so there is little point worrying about it."

He added: "It's the pinnacle of any cricketers career to play and score runs against Australia with the series tied at 1-1 and potentially help England win the Ashes.

"If the selectors do decide to make a change then I would like to be there."

The England squad will be announced on Sunday morning.

Ryan McLaren is still missing with a side-strain, while Azhar Mahmood is rested ahead of Twenty20 finals days against Edgbaston. He returned to four-day duty against Middlesex last week.

Robbie Joseph (shoulder) and Martin Saggers (knee) are both ruled out.
