Street parties in Kent for royal wedding

Street parties are taking place across Kent as people mark Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding.

The county council granted permission for road closures for 14 street parties and organisers have been blessed with glorious sunshine.

Many people in Kent have also headed to London to soak up the atmosphere in Windsor.

The Archbishop of Canterbury The Most Reverend Justin Welby has married the couple, conducting the wedding service in St George's Chapel.

Their new titles are the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

It was the Archbishop's suggestion that the Presiding Bishop and Primate of the Episcopal Church in the USA, The Most Reverend Michael Curry, give the address, according to an ITV report.

It has emerged he turned to grime artist Stormzy to help quell his nerves as he prepared for big day, according to a report in the BBC.

He is said to have got inspiration from listening to the rapper's song Blinded By Your Grace, which includes lyrics about 'praying up and getting the job done'.

Kent's Royal Gurkha Rifles were also part of the ceremony. You can read and hear our exclusive chat with them here.

Defence Secretary Gavin Williamson said: “I am proud that so many servicemen and women from the Royal Navy, Army and Royal Air Force will take part in the ceremonial aspects of the Royal couple’s wedding day.

"For the whole country this is a joyous occasion and the presence of our troops reminds our nation and the entire world of the special and unique relationship between our Armed Forces and the Royal family.”
