A film written and directed by a former Kent student is getting its gala premiere tonight.

Joel Hopkins studied Art and Design and Radio, Film and Television Studies at Canterbury Christ Church University, and he has already won a BAFTA.

Starring Dustin Hoffman and Emma Thompson, Last Chance Harvey is a romantic comedy set in London where Hoffman plays a New Yorker who befriends Kate, an Office of National Statistics worker played by Thompson.

Joel said of the film: "It’s been a pretty humbling experience, but amazing fun. I got very used to watching the actors but then suddenly I’d see them on the monitor, and I’m like, oh my God, that’s Dustin Hoffman and Emma Thompson and I’m directing them!"
