Kent is set to paint its towns red, white and blue for the Queen's diamond jubilee.

A staggering 319 streets across the Kent County Council area will hang out the bunting, with at least 30 more in the Medway area.

That is more than dusted off the doilies for street parties to mark Prince William and Kate Middleton's wedding last year.

Back then, a healthy 182 streets sought permission to hold a celebration bash.

This year, Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells are set to hold the most street parties, with 38 planned in each area. Meanwhile, Medway will also host at
least 30.

Bryan Sweetland, Kent County Council Cabinet for Environment, Highways
and Waste, said: “It is fantastic news that so many residents across
Kent will celebrate this historic occasion with their friends and
neighbours.

“We made this process as simple as possible to make it easy for people
to enjoy the event with their neighbours.

"We also waived the charges for street parties on quiet residential roads and cul-de-sacs.”
