Heatwave in Kent today as Met Office predicts sizzling temperatures

Kent looks set to sizzle today as the Met Office predicts temperatures could rise to 28C.

It is going to be a hot and dry day in the county with some long sunny spells.

Some areas would have seen an early mist clear earlier this morning and high cloud may make the sunshine appear hazy at times later.

Winds will be mainly light and forecasters predict temperatures could reach 28C.

That's hotter than in Saint-Tropez on the French Riviera, where it is about 17C today.

This evening will also be mild and dry with the sunshine predicted to continue and it is expected it will remain dry during the night with clear spells at times and temperatures will drop to 12C.

Tomorrow is also set to be hot again but there is a risk of an isolated thundery shower breaking out in the east during the afternoon.

Then outbreaks of rain later in the afternoon and the maximum temperature is predicted to reach 27C.

The warm weather should see families flocking to the Kent seaside towns and there have been no reported problems on the county's roads this morning.

Later this evening hundreds of football fans are expected to watch the Champions League final between Liverpool and Tottenham on a massive screen at Dreamland in Margate.
