Kent picked up a maximum 22 points as they beat Middlesex by 10 wickets in the LV County Championship at Uxbridge on Saturday.

The foundations for victory were set by a mammoth score of 652 for 7 in the first innings, which led to the hosts following on.

And although Middlesex did pass Kent's total on the final day after posting 356 and 326 in their two innings, it took Rob Key and Sam Northeast just 5.1 overs to knock off the 31 runs required for victory.

Appropriately it was the skipper Key who hit the winning runs with a giant six off the bowling of Dan Housego.

Darren Stevens and Justin Kemp were Kent's batting heroes with 208 and 138 respectively.

Former Kent player Neil Dexter offered the stiffest resistence in reply by racking up a century in both Middlesex innings - but it wasn't enough in the end as Kent took themselves to the brink of promotion back to the first division.

They need just seven more points to go up and nine to go up as champions.
