The Met Office has issued a yellow level two alert meaning that people should prepare for some intense sunshine from today which will continue into next week.

From Monday, temperatures are expected to reach the low 30s.

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has also issued a level two heat-health alert warning for Kent ahead of the hot weather.

The alert is in place from 9am Monday, June 11 until 9am Friday, June 15.

This level of 'alert and readiness' is triggered when there is a 60% risk that temperature thresholds will be reached in one or more regions on at least two consecutive days and the intervening night.

"There is high confidence for temperatures to rise significantly through the second half of this week into the weekend, becoming hot or very hot in south eastern areas from next Monday," the Met office says.

They added that they are unsure how long we can expect this heatwave to last, and say it could be warm into the following weekend.

Kent last endured some intense sunshine last month as temperatures soared above 30C on the hottest day of the year.

People took to the beach to enjoy the heat on Friday, June 17 leading the Met Office to predict 'the hottest Royal Ascot on record' in Berkshire.

Hot weather can be dangerous, especially for the very young or very old or those with chronic disease. Advice on how to reduce the risk either for yourself or somebody you know can be obtained from the Heatwave Plan for England page, from your doctor or local chemist, or ring NHS 111.
