Meanwhile, her Downing Street rival Rishi Sunak visited Sevenoaks yesterday to meet party members.

Pictures shared on Instagram showed the former Chancellor addressing crowds of supporters, with some holding signs saying "beat Starmer's Labour".

Taking to Instagram, Mr Sunak said: "Great to meet so many members in Sevenoaks yesterday.

"If you’d like to attend an event be sure to sign up."

In an email sent to local Tories - seen by KentOnline - officials revealed Mr Truss would speak to activists in the Sevenoaks, Tunbridge Wells, Maidstone, Canterbury and Folkestone areas.

She first arrived in Brasted, near Sevenoaks, where she addressed members and answered a handful of questions this morning.

Kent Conservatives helped co-ordinate the visit so she can meet members ahead of the vote.

Those who registered to attend were sent the exact locations of the events - which were not revealed - this morning.

Messages also noted there would be "light refreshments served" at no charge, although there will be a £5 raffle to offset the costs incurred by the hosts the talks.

Ms Truss made it through to the final round of the leadership contest earlier this week, after winning the support of 113 Conservative MPs.

Meanwhile, her rival for the top job, Rishi Sunak, won 137 votes.

Despite this, bookmakers have Ms Truss as favourite after early indications suggested she has the larger backing among party members, who will make the ultimate decision.

The pair will tour the UK to take part in 12 hustings for the Tory members who will vote for their next leader, with the result being announced on September 5.
