Road closures on M20, M2, A2 and A20

A number of major roads in Kent will be closed this weekend and next week, Highways England has confirmed.

The roads, which include the M20, M2 and A2, will be closed to carry out improvements such as resurfacing and drainage work.

However, these closures could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.

A2 Dartford

Resurfacing work began on the A2 in Dartford last night.

The westbound A2 exit slip road to the Darenth Interchange will remain closed until 6am Monday.

On Monday, there will be a full overnight closure of the A2 westbound entry slip road from Ebbsfleet between 8pm and 6am.

There will be signed diversion routes via the next available junction for both closures.

In addition, from Monday, there will be a full closure of the westbound entry slip road to the M25 roundabout for two nights between 8pm and 6am.

A diversion will be in place via the A2, A2018 the Bexley Interchange and back to the roundabout via the eastbound A2.

Finally, from 8pm on Friday, September 20, there will be a full closure of the eastbound A2 entry slip road from the Darenth Interchange, until 6am on Monday, September 23.

A diversion will be in place via the Darenth Interchange, A282, A206 and A282.

A2 Bean

Surveys will take place this week on the A2 carriageway between Bean and Springhead, to improve the network.

On Tuesday, there will be a closure of the eastbound exit slip road to Springhead overnight between 10pm and 6am.

A diversion will be in place via the next available junction.

On Wednesday, there will be a full closure of the A2 eastbound carriageway between Bean and the A296 overnight between 10pm and 6am.

The diversion will be via the B255, Watling Street and A296.

M2 junction 1 to 4, Rochester, Chatham and Gillingham

The M2 westbound between junction 1 and 4 will be closed tonight from 10pm until 6am tomorrow.

From Monday, there will be a full overnight closure of the eastbound M2 carriageway from junction 1 to junction 4 for six nights between 8pm and 6am.

This is to carry out resurfacing work.

A diversion will be in place via the A289, A2 and A278.

On Sunday, September 22, there will be a full closure of the eastbound and westbound M2 carriageway from junction 3 to junction 5 overnight between 8pm and 6am.

For this closure, a diversion will be in place via A249, M20 and A229.

M2 junction 7, Boughton-under-Blean

Resurfacing work will be carried out next weekend on two bridge sections of the Brenley Corner roundabout, which joins the M2 and A2.

On Saturday, September 21, there will be an overnight closure of the south quadrant of Brenley Corner roundabout from 8pm to 6am, affecting westbound travel.

The diversion route for motorway traffic will be via the A251 and A2.

Non-motorway traffic should use the A299, A28, A252, A251 and A2.

And on Sunday, September 22, there will be an overnight closure of the north quadrant of the roundabout from 8pm to 6am, affecting eastbound travel.

All traffic should instead use the A299 to Plum Pudding Lane, returning south on the A299 to continue east on the M2.

M20 junction 3 to 5, Maidstone

Work will continue on the Smart Motorway upgrade this week on the M20 between junctions 3 and 5.

There are currently narrow lanes and a reduced speed limit of 50mph in place.

From now until Monday, a barrier will be installed along the road, with work being carried out between 10pm until 5am.

Assorted drainage work will also be done under lane 1 closures which will allow for flow of traffic through the works between junctions 3 and 5.

On Sunday, there will be a full overnight closure of junctions 4 and 6 of the M20 London bound between 10pm and 5am Monday.

A diversion will be in place via the A229, M2 or A228.

Further overnight closures will then take place from Monday, between 10pm and 6am for five nights of the coastbound M26 to the M20 and the coastbound M20 between junctions 2 and 4.

A diversion will be in place via the A20.

On Sunday, September 22, there will be a full overnight closure of the M20 coastbound between junctions 4 and 6.

The diversion route will be via the A228, M2 or A229.

M20 junction 9 to 7

Road surface repairs will take place on the M20 for five nights from Monday, between 8pm and 6am.

This will be from junction 9 to 8, on the westbound carriageway.

A diversion will be signed via the A20.

M20 junction 9 to 11

Overnight work will be taking place this weekend to install a temporary traffic management barrier and constructing sign bases.

The coast bound carriageway of the M20 will be closed from 10pm today to 6am tomorrow between junctions 9 and 10.

The diversion is via A20, A28 and A2070.

Junctions 11 to 10 London bound will also be closed overnight from 10pm tomorrow until 6am Monday.

Diversions will be via the A2, M2 and A249.

M20 junction 12

Drainage work are also being carried out on the M20 next week.

From Monday, there will be full closures of the westbound entry and exit slip roads of the M20 carriageway at junction 12 for two nights between 8pm and 6am.

In addition, on Wednesday, there will be a full closure of the eastbound entry and exit slip roads of the M20 carriageway at junction 12 for three nights between 8pm and 6am.

A diversion for each slip road closure will be signed, via the next available junction.

A20 Folkestone

Resurfacing will be carried out on sections of the A20 from Monday.

There will be a full closure of the westbound A20 carriageway between Castle Hill Bridge in Sussex and Cauldham Lane in Capel-le-Ferne from 8pm and 6am for six nights.

A diversion will be in place via the B2011, A260 and the A259.
