A dad-of-four has died just a day after getting wed to his childhood sweetheart.

Mourners gathered to say goodbye to Duane May, 28, who married Vicky, 27, at his hospice bed in a ceremony she described as "heart-breaking".

Their four children, Tommy, 10, Bradley, eight, Billy, seven, and Kacey, five, looked on.

The pair married just five days after they had sat together in Maidstone Hospital when Mr May was told he had months to live after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

Mrs May, talking at her home in Camp Way, Mangravet, said after the diagnosis, Mr May said he wanted to go home and spend his remaining months with his family.

"It did not work out that way," she said. "He deteriorated quickly and less than a week later died."
