Flowers left at the scene of Friday night's two car crash on the A28 at Chartham.

Tributes have flooded in for a man and a woman who died in an accident on the A28 at Chartham, near Canterbury.

The collision happened on Ashford Road around 10.30pm on Friday between the junction with Chartham and Shalmsford Street.

A 19-year-old man driving a Renault Clio and a 25-year-old woman in a VW Polo died at the scene. Both are believed to be from the local area.

Firefighters from Canterbury's Red Watch had to cut both drivers free from their vehicles and the road was closed for several hours.

Watch manager Sheridan Hudson-Peacock said: "We received a call from police around 10.30pm and two appliances from our station attended.

"Two private vehicles were involved in a collision, which has sadly ended in a double fatality."

Emergency services reopened the road around 5.45am.

Next of kin have been informed and police are continuing to investigate the accident.
