Man arrested after two suspected drug deaths

A Thanet man has been arrested on suspicion of supplying heroin after a man died in a Margate flat.

Kent Police were called to an address in Canterbury Road, Westbrook, at around 7am this morning where a 27-year-old man was being treated by paramedics.

He died earlier today.

A 26-year-old man from Broadstairs has since been arrested and is currently in police custody.

The death follows a similar incident in Herne Bay on Monday. Officers were called at around 11am to a property in Sussex Close, where a 45-year-old man was found dead.

A spokesman for Kent Police said there is currently no evidence to link the two deaths.

However, Det Insp Nick Greenan, head of the East Kent Area Major Enquiry Team, said: "In the past 48 hours, we have attended two deaths where there is suspected link to the use of Class A drugs and needles.

"Both deaths remain unexplained at this time but I want to reach out to the drug-using community with a message of caution.

"The message is simple - do not use illicit drugs. I would say to those who feel they must, please protect yourselves and take extra care about what you take and who you purchase it from."
