A 26-year-old man extradited from Ireland in connection with a shooting incident at a travellers’ site in Kent has been charged with two counts of attempted murder.

Gerry Conners, of no fixed home, was also accused of robbery and grievous bodily harm when he appeared at Maidstone Crown Court.

Conners was arrested in Dublin on May 18 and then extradited to the UK. He is due to appear before a Crown Court judge again this coming on Friday.

He has also been charged with three counts of possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence, possession of ammunition for a firearm without a certificate, possessing a handgun, possessing a handgun while committing an offence, criminal damage and careless driving.

The charges come after a 46-year-old man suffered a shotgun wound to his lower back at the unlawful travellers’ site known as Orchard Park in Oak Lane, Upchurch, near Sittingbourne.
