Man gunned down outside post office

DETECTIVES are continuing to hunt for a gunman who shot a man outside Upstreet Post Office, near Canterbury. A single shot was fired from a white car outside the post office in Island Road shortly before 3pm on Friday.

The victim, who has not been named, was treated at the Kent and Canterbury Hospital before being transferred to another hospital. An NHS official said that, for the safety of the victim, the name of the hospital was not being disclosed.

She said that the man had undergone surgery and was now "comfortable". Police are treating the incident as attempted murder.

"We are interested in hearing from any people who were in the vicinity of the post office at Upstreet at the time and who may have seen a white, medium-sized saloon/hatchback travelling to, or from, the post office," said Det Sgt Grahame Dinsdale.

Anyone who can help is asked to contact Canterbury police on 01227 762055.
