A man who poured boiling water over his girlfriend during a row has been sentenced to six years.

Jason Day, of Cambridge Crescent, Maidstone, poured a kettle over Daphne Thompson’s shoulder and back causing her excruciating pain, a court heard.

Day, 42, has admitted causing grievous bodily harm.

A judge ruled that he will serve four years in jail, and then be on licence for a further two years.

Canterbury Crown Court heard that the incident happened last August, when the couple had been together for three months, during an argument about money.

At some point in the argument she held a potato peeler to him. Day turned on a kettle and, when it had boiled, poured it over Miss Thompson.

Prosecutor Catherine Donnelly said: "She felt the burning and she was in excruciating pain.”
