Man pulled from wreckage of burning home

A man has been taken to hospital after he was badly injured in a fire which destroyed the first floor of his house.

Firefighters were called to the blaze, which happened at a detached house in Senora Way, Sittingbourne, at 1.20pm on Monday.

The man, who is thought to be about 30, was pulled from the property suffering from smoke inhalation and burns. He was taken to Medway Maritime Hospital.

Three fire crews, from Sittingbourne, Sheppey and Medway used breathing apparatus and two hose reel jets to tackle the blaze, which they managed to put out by about 2pm. They left the scene by 3.30pm.

The first floor of the house has been destroyed and the ground floor damaged by heat and smoke.

Red Cross Victim Support Unit was asked to attend by Kent Fire and Rescue Service.

The cause of the fire is not yet known but is not being treated as suspicious.
