A GILLINGHAM man has appeared in court charged with the attempted murder of a 22-year-old woman.

Roland Ashley Lake, 26, of Cobham Rise, appeared at Medway Magistrates’ Court in Chatham. He is accused of attempting to murder Lisa Jane Phillips.

Lake did not speak when magistrates asked him to confirm his name and address. These details were then given to the court by his solicitor, Kevin Gladwell.

Lake was remanded in custody and given a date to attend Maidstone Crown Court on Monday, May 24. There was no application for bail.

Lake was arrested after police were called to a house in Cobham Rise, near Woodlands Road, on Thursday night.

He was questioned by detectives over the weekend and charged with attempted murder last night.

Lisa Jane Phillips was taken to Medway Maritime Hospital and treated for stab wounds.
