A memorial to two teenagers murdered by Peter Tobin could be built in Thanet.

The remains of Dinah McNicol, 18, and Vicky Hamilton, 15, were found at the serial killer's house of horror in Margate.

That property has now been re-let by Thanet Council - despite calls for it to be demolished.

But council bosses are now working closely with the families of the girls to agree how they will be remembered.

A tree will be planted and a bench put up in a graveyard near to Irvine Drive, where the house stands.

Dinah's dad Ian McNicol welcomed the plan.

He said: "That's fine as far as I'm concerned. They will be remebered where they died."

The 71-year-old had called for the house to be demolished and a memorial made at the address.

His daughter disappeared in August 1991 after she hitched a lift home from a music festival.

Thanet District Council director of community services, Brendan Ryan, said: "We have consulted heavily with local residents and community leaders who have had to deal with a tragic event happening in their midst.

"The message that overwhelmingly came back was that 'we just want to get back to normal'."

It is hoped the memorial will be ready soon.

Tobin, of Johnstone, Renfrewshire, is serving life sentences for murdering the two teenagers and a Polish student.
