Morrisons in bid to avoid workers' strike

BOSSES at the troubled Morrisons chain have taken action to avoid Friday’s proposed strike by workers at three of its distribution depots including its site at Beddow Way, Aylesford.

In a statement released this afternoon Morrisons says it will meet union representative’s wishes for joint national bargaining in a bid to avoid industrial action.

The issue has arisen as staff accuse the company of planning closures and redundancies without consultation.

Workers at both Morrison’s Aylesford distribution and its Tunbridge Wells store say they have heard unconfirmed reports that the sites are to shut.

Last Thursday, a 1,000 staff at the Aylesford depot voted overwhelmingly to strike.
